An Awesome Bird Video - The Original DUCKumentary
The Original DUCKumentary is a wonderful film about ducks. It focuses on Wood Ducks in particular. I have shown 15 minutes of the show for several days to the kids. They love it! It is a very educational and fun show to watch. I learn something new every time I watch it, so grab some popcorn, snuggle up with your child and enjoy a cool show about ducks. I think they may surprise you by knowing some of the ducks already! Nearly all of the ducks in this show are in our area with Wood Ducks being at the lake right here in our town. September Journal Entries
The kids continue to draw and write their ideas in "kid
writing". It takes time and lots of lessons and practice, but by the
end of the year you will see the practice has paid off! When they are finished they ask for "grown-up" writing from myself or the teacher that is helping me. That is where they watch us write it and we explain what we are doing. One girl still says, "Teacher, I'm ready for human writing." That is so cute!

Take a Hike!

| Take a hike at Corsica Lake! |
There is a bathroom, picnic area and a playground down in the campground. If looking for birds and other animals is your primary purpose, be somewhat quiet and have your child walk rather than run through the woods to have your best luck. Take time to throw or skip rocks in the lake, catch some frogs or butterflies, check out the different wildflowers, or see how many species of birds you can spot. The kids know 101 different species of birds now, so it would be good to get out and see them. You could even take some fall photos of your kids for your family Christmas card.
Bring binoculars and a camera, if you have them. Grab a picnic lunch and go on a little family adventure! Hiking and birding are very inexpensive ways to spend quality time with your child. Being outdoors is not only healthy for you, it is also very relaxing. Keep it low-key and have a fun time!
